‘Wind in the Willows’ , which was first written by Kenneth Grahame and published in 1908, is one the most popular classics of the English language. This edition of the book is abridged and pitched at a lower reading age than the original version. It has been written so that young children today can enjoy such whimsical characters as Mole, Rat, Toad and Badger and many others. Scenes from the story have been delightfully drawn by the artist Ray Wittenberg.
At the end of each chapter there is a page of questions in the format used for comprehension testing in schools. These questions simply test whether the chapter has been read and understood. The answer section is placed in the middle of the book so that it can be removed by a parent or teacher.
Peter Howard is an ex-primary school principal and author of many widely used school teaching aids and text books.
