Designed to accompany Novare General Biology, The Apprentice’s Companion for General Biology is an exciting and valuable combination of experiment book, field manual, and commonplace book. Throughout the book, students are prompted to form hypotheses, take data, and revisit those hypotheses to assess, wherever possible, if they are supported by the data.
Enhanced with images of art, poems, and quotes by respected scientists and naturalists, each chapter of The Apprentice’s Companion for General Biology contains:
- multiple experiments and lab activities, some taking approximately 15 minutes and others occupying a class period or more
- multiple experiment procedures
- space for sketches, draft and final graphs, and data and data tables
- room for writing down thoughts and interacting with questions
Memoria Press’ science program has two main goals prior to high school science. First, we teach students the world of nature by studying the things its makeup—birds, insects, trees, mammals, and also the heavenly bodies. Second, students learn a narrative account of the development of the sciences—they learn science in a story form, in a way they can best understand it. They are then ready to study high school science using the excellent Novare Science Series. Check out all that Memoria Press has to offer with science here.
Novare advocates a paradigm for teaching science that has proven to be a true game changer for student academic achievement: Wonder, Integration, and Mastery. These principles flow from a robust Kingdom Perspective and also form the core of the Novare philosophy.
