Successful English 5A includes exercises for comprehension, grammar and creative writing.
Grammar, comprehension and creative writing will be alternated. The work is presented in small increments that allows the child to absorb the concept. The work becomes harder as the child progresses through the book.
The book builds on grammar learnt in earlier Successful English titles covering: nouns (common, proper, collective, abstract, number agreement, gender agreement, nominative case, objective case, possessive case), verbs (finite, transitive), adjectives (interrogative, demonstrative, possessive, distributive), pronouns, punctuation, and tense.
Writing focuses on more specific text types: biographies, autobiographies, narratives (tall stories, adventure stories), business letters, descriptive essays, diaries, dialogue, and persuasive writing (argumentative writing).
This book also includes dictionary and thesaurus skills, and critical thinking skills, .
A revision section at the back of the book will allow you to gauge whether or not your child has mastered the concepts. You can also use Test Your English 5 (no. 539) to determine if your child is ready to move onto Successful English 6A and 6B.
Although this book appears much harder than the average grade 5 book, children who have already completed earlier books of the Successful English series should have no trouble with it.
Answers are included for all exercises.
