The Feelings & Emotions Matching Pairs is a game of recognition and memory based on a variety of expressions, feelings and everyday emotions.
Students can engage with this resource in so many different ways. They can pull items from the calico bag and match with items they have. Or they can play the traditional memory game where the pieces are all turned with the picture side face down and the plain side facing up. Then they have to turn two pieces over to try and match a pair. If a pair isn’t made the pieces are turned back over for the next player to have a turn. If the pair is a match the player who made the match has another turn, and so on. Whoever has the most pairs made when all the pieces have been matched up is the winner of the game. This is a great game for developing memory skills, observation and classification skills.
Children can also use these emotion pieces to identify different expressions and feelings to explore. They can then talk about whether they have felt like that and how it felt, what caused them to feel this way, and also how they worked through that feeling. If they were feeling sad did they find a friends to play with? If they were feeling happy how did they celebrate that feeling? A great topic to discuss for social & emotional topics in the learning environment- especially for children who might be going through a difficult time or needing extra support to manage their feelings.
