A clinometer is an instrument used to measure the height of an object by determining the angle of slope. Clinometers measure both inclines (positive slopes when you look upwards) as well as declines (negative slopes, when you look down). When you want to establish the height of an object, you will have to look through the viewer of the clinometer to the top of the object to measure the angle of the slope. Once this is established, you measure the distance from the location you measured the angle to the object. With these two variables, you can calculate the height.
This compact clinometer has been designed with no external moving parts and a combined ‘sighting’ – angle reading eyepiece. A window on the side of the Clinometer allows a second person to confirm or check a reading. Furthermore all angles are given in degrees followed by a plus or minus sign to indicate an upward or downward slope (inclination or declination). Instruction leaflet included. It measures 14cm in diameter. Ages 6+ years
