Sort by shape, size or colour and transparency! With lots more shapes than your normal attribute blocks set, this set takes sorting to the next level! Hands-on explorations to compare the number of edges and corners to find out why each shape is unique. This set includes 6 shapes in 2 sizes and 6 colours and 2 transparencies (solid and translucent).
Perfect to learn about different attributes of shapes. The set consists of squares (5cm and 10cm), rectangles (2.5x5cm and 5x10cm), circles (5cm and 10cm), triangles (5cm and 10cm), hexagons (5cm and 10cm) and pentagons (5cm and 10cm). A total of 144 shapes, supplied in a sturdy container.
Get inspired and use some of the activities below to get started: – Place all shapes on a table and sort the shapes by their different attributes. First collect all the translucent shapes and then the solids. Mix them up again and find all red shapes. You can further define this by letting students sort by more than one attribute, for instance large red solid shapes, or small translucent red shapes. – Instead of sorting buttons with certain attributes, let students identify shapes which do not have certain attributes. For instance: sort all shapes which are NOT red or green, NOT large and NOT translucent. – Use Venn-diagrams to place the shapes in the different circles, depending on their attributes – Practise with more than and less than, by sort all shapes with more than 4 edges – Create a pattern of shapes and continue the pattern. This can be based on colour, shape or size, transparency, etc. Let students identify the pattern – Practise with communication skills, by letting one student place 9 shapes in a 3×3 grid. The student has to describe the shapes to another student, by using words like below, above, next to, and by describing the shape.
